'Blue' Music Album By A.R.Rahman Review - Dinesh Scaran

'Blue' Music Album By A.R.Rahman Review
By Dinesh Scaran

Music Composed by Oscar Winner A.R.Rahman

The latest Hindi album of Oscar Winner, A.R.Rahman. The first album released post the win of the Oscar award by A.R.Rahman. Seductive by say, addictive by nature.

First thing first. This Music album is from the Yet-to-be-released Hindi film, BLUE which stars Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta, Zayed Khan and Katrina Kaif. This movie is being directed by a newbie, Anthony D'Souza. And its riding high on the big cast, and ofcource, with having the music department handled by the double Oscar winner, A.R.Rahman.

Its CD cover has a neat package with lyrics booklet and complete details of the singers and their contribution towards each song. Another factor that needs a special attention is that this album sees the famous singer from Australia, Kylie Minogue rendering a song and appearing on screen for that song. Lets not talk more on the hype and just get to the point, shall we?

The album consists of 7 tracks, and they are

1. Chiggy Wiggy - Kylie Minogue, Suzanne D'Mello & Sonu Nigam
2. Aaj Dil - Shreya Ghoshal & Sukhwinder Singh
3. Fiqrana - Shreya Ghoshal, Vijay Prakash & Neeraj Shridhar
4. Bhoola Tujhe - Rashid Ali
5. Blue Theme - Blaaze, Raqeeb Alam, Sonu Kakkar, Jaspreet Singh, Neha Kakkar & Dilshad
6. Rehnuma - Shreya Ghoshal, Sonu Nigam & Neeraj Shridhar
7. Yaar Mila Tha - Udit Narayan & Madhushree

1. Chiggy Wiggy - Kylie Minogue, Suzanne D'Mello & Sonu Nigam

- What should i say? i would definitely say i never enjoyed any number this much so far in this year. It just has a very tasty tune and crispy beats. Kylie has done a fabulous job! She has her style from the way she says " I Chiggy Whiggy with boy.... " "Fella!" Her portion is simply the highlight of the song, i still strongly feel A.R.Rahman should have come up with Chiggy Whiggy version 2, just only with her portion, it would be a treat for those who didnt enjoy Sonu's part. I am one of them, haha. Though its not bad, but i feel it somehow sounded the typical-Hindi-club-number. I seriously felt Sonu was great in his energy, but totally turned off my likes for him in the song with his desi-slang "ChiGGEE whiGGEEE". His part had the typical Bhangra flavor, and i can see Kylie had nothing much to do then. But one thing I can be very sure, its going to be a HUGE HIT among the youngsters in clubs and parties.

Rating : 8/10

2. Aaj Dil - Shreya Ghoshal & Sukhwinder Singh

- A very energetic song which starts with the gibberish " Oh Yasa.. Ma Yasa..... Sa Yasa... So Yassa". Then the guitar riffs comes along. And the song takes off with Sukhwinder Singh giving his shot. And Piano too joins in along with Shreya Goshal singing her portion. Shreya sounds awfully sweet. Whats really addictive and mesmerising in this song is that after Shreya's intro, the "Uuuuuuuuu" along with the Piano's game behind. Just wanna make you stand up and give a bow to A.R.Rahman. The first interlude is somehow like the element water being played playfully, but very softly, but expressed musically. You get me right? Haha. Then the "Uuuuu" comes here and there throughout the song which will linger in your mind for a very long time, even after the song has stopped.

3. Fiqrana - Shreya Ghoshal, Vijay Prakash & Neeraj Shridhar

- My most favorite number in the album. Vijay Prakash is a talent to be given more priority. I dont see him singing much. We need him! His rendition in Man Mohini from Yuvvraaj is a good start, but alas, the movie bombed! Fiqrana has a very complicated tune, but its easy on the ears and not to mention, catchy! The way Vijay sings, and Shreya joins him is just fabulous! Mark my words, there are going to be many clones of this song soon, be it in Hindi Industry or Tamil Industry. The interludes are simple, but the tune is not. I guess A.R.Rahman wanted us to give attention to the tune more. Vijay Prakash has done a magnificent job!

Ratings : 9.9/10

4. Bhoola Tujhe - Rashid Ali

- Starts off very softly, the violin (?) caressing your heart carefully. Its goes on close to a minute, but you wont realize it was that long, typical A.R.Rahman eh? Then the female vocal comes in "ohhhhh" along the guitars and Rashid starts. It will simply reminds you a number from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Its a very simple yet powerful song. It has the English number feel, but knitted well with Indian flavors. The song has a very strong ground with its hummable tune, and neat arrangements. Not to forget Rashid's unique voice. The ending with the female's vocal, just magical!

5. Blue Theme - Blaaze, Raqeeb Alam, Sonu Kakkar, Jaspreet Singh, Neha Kakkar & Dilshad

- Alright, this is soon to be my ringtone! I just love the energy in the song! Its unbelievable that A.R.Rahman, at his age, could compose something such as this. Not degrading A.R.Rahman for his age, but numbers like this are usually composed by the younger bloods. The creative " Buluuuueee", the electric guitar (??) the female vocal which goes very seductive, and appears from no where. And then, later towards the end, the tempo of the song increases and rushes as if its actually running. Its just marvelous! my personal favorite as well.

Rating : 9/10

6. Rehnuma - Shreya Ghoshal, Sonu Nigam & Neeraj Shridhar

- A.R.Rahman has been great in his Jazz numbers, be it Iruvar's Vennila Vennila or Sillunu Oru Kadhal's title song, or even in the latest Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na's Tu Bole. But wait, those was authentic jazz numbers, but Rehnuma is a fusion i believe. It starts off very jazz'ly, but progressed into a very Indianized number, with the beats being somewhat similar to A.R.Rahman's Yedho Yedho from Ennaku 20 Unnake 18 number. The interludes are just too mesmerizing! Its hard not to like this number. Shreya, i seriously salute you for this song! U have made me enjoyed it thoroughly with your rendition. Sonu as usual, does his best! This song will take time to grow on the common listeners, who are used to the typical song patterns.

Rating : 9/10

7. Yaar Mila Tha - Udit Narayan & Madhushree

- Aah, i know what you all are thinking, that im going to give this song a 10/10 rating and praise Madhushree from start to end. No! Haha. , lets get into the song. It starts of playfully, and then the chant " Ah Thak Ah Theena, Ah Theen theen theena" comes in. You will be surprised, it sounds new, but great! And Madhushree comes in the picture, gracing the song with her silky honey voice. Udit Narayan does a great job as well, i feel the power he gave the song is very good. Its visible that both Madhushree and Udit Narayan was living the song. Madhushree was giving emotion for each word and changing her tone adequately. Loved her " Ohh Oh ohhh". If you see clearly, this song doesnt fit in this Album, its like the most Indianized number among all. Its like a typical 1980s Hindi number with a pinch of contemporary's music. As soon as the song is over, you will be murmuring" Ah Thak Ah Theena, Ah Theen theen theena", whether you like it or not! Hah!

Rating : 8.5/10

Verdict : I will call this album the MOST satisfying album from A.R.Rahman in years. The last album that i liked all the songs from A.R.Rahman's album was Kangalal Kaithi Sei (2003). This is truly a dream come true! Sorry i couldnt review the lyrics as well because i do not understand Hindi. What should i say, BLUE is truly a masterpiece. Go grab your copies now! Its not a BLUE album, but a RED album, its HOT and ROCKING!

Overall rating : 9.5/10
